Mould Fashioned
Mould Fashioned is a small-scale mould-making and casting service run by David McDiarmid Studio in Glasgow’s East End, supplying ready-made and bespoke moulds for casting projects.
What do you offer?
Perhaps you want to cast an object in a material such as jesmonite, plaster, concrete, resin or wax. You might need to make a mould in order to do this but you’re not sure how to go about it!
We offer a service in which we can make a bespoke mould to suit your casting projects. We can also cast objects for you.
Alternatively if you have some knowledge of mould-making and casting already and just need a bit of advice, we can work with you on a consultancy basis.
How it works
First of all, we offer a free initial chat to discuss your project further and see where we might be able to help.
Next, we provide a quote for the works - based on either:
commissioning us to make moulds and/or cast objects on your behalf
or,
Working with you on a consultancy basis if you intend to make the moulds and/or cast objects yourself.
We charge £30 per hour plus material costs.
Let’s mould your future project!
Case Studies
Jesmonite Picture Frames
A framing solution for David McDiarmid Studio’s food portrait paintings. We produced bespoke moulds to cast frames with jesmonite providing a unique alternative to wooden picture frames and allowing each frame to be colour-matched to the painting being framed.
Paper Boat Pin Badges
The Estate for the late Scottish artist George Wyllie MBE (1921-2012) approached us to reproduce a paper boat pin badge George once made and sold at craft markets. We made a bespoke mould and produced replica paper boats using jesmonite, and transforming them into pin badges complete with a bespoke packaging solution to be stocked and sold in the gift shop of The Wyllieum – a soon-to-be open archive and museum of George Wyllie’s work. The Wyllieum is opening within the new multi-million pound Ocean Terminal designed by Richard Murphy Architects for Greenock’s Cultural Quarter.
